The Music Centre - an independent organisation for the promotion of music.

The Music Centre is an alternative to commercial employment agencies for artists in that it negotiates and promotes concerts and gigs free of charge. It represents a broad spectrum of highly qualified musicians in a wide variety of genres and has a clearly defined cultural-policy objective.

The Music Centre was formed in 1970 and can be seen as a reaction to the enormous post-war expansion of commercial music which leaves many musicians isolated and powerless.
Aside from its work finding concert opportunities, the Music Centre seeks to achieve certain cultural-policy goals such as creating a musically active society, supporting alternatives to market-driven music, opening new musical paths, and stimulating the general music-policy debate. It therefore collaborates with festivals and has concert series of its own, and helps schools and preschools extend their musical boundaries.

The Music Centre has made a special effort to promote musical programmes and activities for children, and all manner of musicians and groups are to be found at the organization´s web site .

The Music Centre has some 500 members who are offered assistance with planning tours, writing contracts and other services. The organization procures a great number of performances a year for its members. The chief clients are municipal authorities and adult education associations, but private individuals and companies also contact us about musical performances. The employment service is free of charge.

The Music Centre has one employment office at the national organization´s headquarters in Stockholm, info@musikcentrum.se and one employment office at the southern regional branch in Malmö, orlando@mixmusik.com
